What is Ekadashi?

Ekadashi (literally "the eleventh") falls twice each month โ€” on the 11th day of the waxing moon and the 11th day of the waning moon. In the Vaishnava tradition, Ekadashi is observed as a day of fasting from grains and beans, increased chanting, and heightened devotional activities.

According to the Vedic scriptures, the influence of the moon on the mind is strongest around Ekadashi, making it an ideal time for meditation and spiritual practice. It is said that fasting and chanting on Ekadashi purifies ten times more than on other days.
